Efrem Sewell is the proprietor of the Sewell Law Firm. As an attorney, Efrem Sewell represents his clients in immigration cases.

The United States Citizen and Immigration Services is empowered to review and approve applications for citizenship. In cases where an applicant is denied their request for citizenship, the applicant is given the right to contest the decision in an administrative proceeding. Administrative proceedings are hearings that do not take place in a courtroom and are managed internally by specific governmental agencies.

In immigration cases, it is important that a client select an attorney that is knowledgeable about the regulations governing immigration law. In addition to the codified regulations, attorneys must also be aware of the many non-legislative rules that may be applied to administrative immigration proceedings. The adjudication of an immigration benefit is a highly regimented process that necessitates the serious attention of an experienced attorney to ensure that all procedural steps are followed to maximize the likelihood of a positive outcome.

Formally organized in 1925, the National Bar Association is the country’s oldest and largest association of African American attorneys and judges. Conceived by 12 individuals who sought justice on civil rights issues via legal advocacy, the organization began when there were less than 1,000 African American lawyers in the country. Since then, membership has grown to include more than 65,000 legal professionals.

Each year, the association sponsors a prestigious event in which more than 2,000 judges, attorneys, and other guests convene. Scheduled for July 16-22, 2016, the National Bar Association’s 91st Annual Convention and Exhibits will take place at the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel in Missouri. In previous years, attendees listened to keynote speakers, partook in discussion sessions with distinguished leaders, and earned continuing legal education (CLE) credits. Members also have the opportunity to learn about the services and products of convention exhibitors.
